Love leather furniture but hate the price? Try sitting back in one of the best faux leather couches and sofas. They cost less, and look shockingly like the real deal. Whether you want an oversized three-seater or something simple and sleek, you can find it in that sophisticated, supple finish that leather lovers live for.

If you’re ready to see find yours now, scroll down to our picks. However, if you still need to be convinced about why faux leather sofas are just as comfy as their genuine counterparts, keep reading.

Lots of people think so. Here’s why:

In general, faux leather upholstery is a fraction of the price of regular leather. If you’re someone who likes to switch up the look of your home, or prefer to spend your money elsewhere, you can get that luxurious look for less — a whole lot less!

Another thing that makes faux leather upholstery a great option is that it’s perfect for people with pets. Faux leather often incorporates materials that are easy to clean as well as scratch resistant. AllModern’s Portola Sofa, for example, only needs to be wiped down with a damp sponge — a lot easier than vacuuming up FiFi or Fido’s fur balls.

Some of the best faux leather couches and sofas are also spill proof, like Latitude Run’s Faux Leather Square Arm Sofa. If you’re always dropping ketchup or coffee on your upholstery, this is a great choice. It also comes with storage.

Natural leather is known for its high-end look and durability. Unfortunately, it’s also expensive. For example, the typical Italian leather sofa will cost $2,500 — and that’s on the low end. They also need to be regularly treated with leather balm or conditioner to retain their luster.

Most of us don’t have time for that, which is why faux leather sofas are so popular. Along with being budget-friendly, they’re easy to clean and cruelty-free. They’re also surprisingly durable.

There are two types of faux leather: PU, and PVC.

PU leather is made from polyurethane, a thermoplastic. It’s sometimes called bonded leather, bicast leather, or corrected grain leather. It’s flexible, can be cleaned with a wet sponge, and comes in color options beyond brown and black. Although it doesn’t produce the same deep shine genuine leather does, it’s incredible how furniture designers have crafted faux pieces to mimic the real thing.

Take the Natasa Faux Leather Rolled Arm Chesterfield Sofa, for example. It’s glossy, but not in that cheap, vinyl-looking way. In fact, most people would think it was an antique — it looks that good! It’s also stuffed with down feathers, so it’s plush while still maintaining the structural form Chesterfields are known for.

The main thing to remember about PU leather sofas is that although they’re considered vegan, they’re not always eco-friendly. They can also sometimes emit a chemical smell. If these things matter to you, make sure to read up on how the sofa is manufactured. Some designers, like Albany Park, are serious about sustainability and only use recycled materials to create their best faux leather couches and sofas. They don’t work with harsh chemicals, and their furniture, including the faux leather Park Sofa, is completely customizable.

PVC leather mixes polyvinylchloride and other materials to make it soft. The Asheville Vegan Leather Square Arm Sofa, is my favorite couch of this type, mainly because of its shape and color. Sofas with PVC often are made with nylon or polyester, making them thicker and more durable. Although neither will last as long as anything made from genuine leather, it won’t fall apart a month after buying.

If you’ve owned a faux leather jacket, you know that it’s just a matter of time before it will start to peel. It’s gloss coating will begin to crack, and there goes your cool jacket. Although cracks and peeling are inevitable with any leather that isn’t genuine, there are a few things you can do to prevent this from happening straight away.

To extend the longevity of your faux leather sofa, avoid putting it under direct sunlight or close to heaters. Use a soft sponge or cloth when cleaning, making gentle circular motions. If you use a cleaning agent, make sure its alcohol-free. You can also wipe the sofa down with a faux leather protectant, like ColourLock.

PU leather or any type of faux leather is a better option if you’re looking to save money. Since consumers have become more interested in high quality, eco-friendly products, more manufacturers are rising to meet the demand. This means the faux leather sofas are sturdier and comfier than they were ten years ago. In fact, most people can’t tell a a sofa is made from faux leather when they see one.

PU leather is also vegan, making it better for animals and people who want avoid using animal products. They can also be supportive to your back. The Ainsley Rolled Arm Sofa has thick foam filled cushions, making it maintain its shape while relieving pressure. It’s also under $500, and one of the best faux leather couches and sofas you’ll encounter.

If you’ve been hunting for a faux leather couch that’s gorgeous and comfortable, look no further. Albany Park’s Park Sofa is sumptuously soft, snuggly, and versatile enough to go with whatever your home style is. Its removable seat cushions have the same type of foam you’d find in a mattress, and are stuffed with feathers to make them extra squishy. The sofa is delivered in a box, and fits together like a puzzle. You don’t have to deal with screw drivers, drills or any of that mess! When assembled it’s only a few inches over six feet, so it won’t eat up your space, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Whether you just moved or are looking to breathe new life into your home, this beauty is a true room enhancer.

Promising review: “The color is perfect, super comfortable, and easy to put to together. It’s the statement piece of my living room.”

Leather — faux or genuine — looks nice, but doesn’t always scream “cozy”. The Granville Faux Leather Square Arm Sofa may be your answer to this dilemma. Its pocketed coil springs — yes, just like a bed — make it look and feel nap-worthy. If you’re not a fan of it in white, you can also grab it in black or red. Those who visit you will love curling up and staying for awhile, and if you’re solo, you’ll enjoy stretching out on this bonded leather dream.

Promising review: “The sofa is extremely comfy! My guests have loved it as well! After I placed my order, the price dropped. I called Wayfair, and they matched the price.”

Once upon a time in an apartment far away, I didn’t own a couch because I couldn’t spare the room. If only I knew about this Faux Leather Square Arm Sofa from Latitude Run. Besides also coming in a fun orange color (you can also buy in grey), it’s built for smaller spaces. The six-foot couch has deep side pockets on both ends to slip a remote or magazine into. It’s also resistant to spills — a must if you like to eat on the sofa (as I do). The cushions have high density foam, so it will retain its comfort and structure. Plus, it’s scratch proof.

If you have the room, a sectional couch is a great option. It frames a sitting area, making it feel cozier and inviting. It’s also ideal for lounging, and seating extra guests. Before you panic about the color — I know, white furniture and lots of foot traffic don’t match — note that the Zander Leather Sectional comes in three other vegan color swatches. It’s also customizable, so the chaise section can be made to go on the right end of the sofa or the left. The cushions are stuffed with foam and feathers, so if you want a completely animal-free lounging experience, this isn’t for you. However, if you love the fluffiness that feathers bring to furniture, I highly suggest giving this a try.

Rustic furniture can make a room feel warmer. This faux leather Ainsley Rolled Arm Sofa mimics soft suede, and is plushier than you’d expect. It has thick foam-based cushions to cradle your bum, and they’re removable — perfect for easy cleaning. This three-seater would look great against a cooler color palette, especially when paired with an inviting red oriental rug. If you’re concerned about durability, you’ll be glad to know that, along with higher density foam, the sofa also features inner spring coils. Years should go by before you have to think of upgrading.

Promising review: “Love the soft faux leather material… looks very minimalist and elegant — perfect look for my living room!”

Style tastes change, so it’s nice to pick a couch that has a classic structure. This way it will go with whatever you have going on with your walls or floor. I love AllModern, because they really know how to make vintage designs look fresh. The Portola Sofa, for example, is a smidge mid-century, but offers more comfort than that time period is known for. It has sinuous coil springs for bounce and durability, plus foam cushions. Another selling point is that, along with being made with PU leather, the tapered legs come from eco-friendly eucalyptus wood. It’s also available in a honey tan color.

Promising review: “I LOVE this couch! We’ve had it for two years, and it’s held up incredibly well. I have never owned anything but a cloth couch before, and I wasn’t entirely sure how comfortable this one would be. However, it’s very comfy… I would absolutely recommend.”

Recliners are not just for putting your feet up. They offer great back support and relieve joint pain. This reclining sofa from Latitude Run has cushy pillow top arms, and comes with lots of hidden treats. The first can be found in its center, where the console is. It includes cupholders too, so your drink is always within reach. If pushing back is difficult, this one-pull manual is also available as a power recliner. However, my personal favorite aspect of this couch is that it can also be ordered to rock, making it fun and soothing. Just imagine coming home, slipping off your shoes, and curling up on one of the ends. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth, and comes in two other colors.

Does your office sometimes double as a guest room? This is the couch for you. As its name implies, the Novogratz Convertible Sofa doubles as a bed, making it a life-saver when impromptu visitors come knocking. If you’re not entirely sold on a faux leather couch, I’m happy to report it comes in seven other finishes. However, this model is easy to clean, can be enjoyed in white, grey, or black, and is simple to install. One side can recline while the other remains upright, and it just needs some decorative pillows, like this boho one, to top it off.

Promising review: “We bought this couch to replace one that had started falling apart. The shipping was quicker than expected, and arrived in great shape…It was easy to put together, and looks very nice. The cushions are fairly [firm], and provide great support. I have a bad back, and have to be careful where I sit, and this is perfect for that. My family and I love it! It seats all four of us nicely!”

If you’re revamping your living room, why not do it big? This three-piece sectional is called modern beige, but it’s more of a cream color and completely luxurious. I like to imagine it as the back drop to some fabulous post-Covid soiree, but it will also be a welcome sight after a long day. Each piece features tufted cushions, rounded arms, and glossy wood backing. The sofa seats five people, so you’ll have plenty of room no matter what your social plans are. There’s no assembly required, shipping is free, and it comes with five throw pillows.

Promising review: “I bought this set two months ago, and it has held up against my large husband, four dogs, a cat, and multiple parties with messy kids. Definitely got my money’s worth!”

It doesn’t get more classic than a chesterfield sofa. If you love the regal style, but don’t want your space to look too retro, consider the Aleetha Faux Leather Sofa version. It has a more modern take on the vintage design, and its burnt sienna color will brighten the room. Made with PU leather, the sofa still has the signature nail trim and rolled arms, but has a grooved back instead of tuffets. The cushions can be flipped, and have individually wrapped coil springs to keep things buoyant and comfy. They also have pressure relieving foam, making this a great option for those with a temperamental back. You’ll love laying against them, a good book in hand.

Not everyone likes sinking into their sofa. For one thing, it makes it harder to get back up. It’s also not always great for your back. This Asheville Vegan Leather Square Arm Sofa is awesome if you crave something more structural. The cushions have sinuous springs for comfort, but you’re not going to feel completely enveloped by the material. They also have velcro at the bottom, with means they won’t move when you do — always a plus. The sofa uses PVU leather, making it soft and flexible. It’s also available in a lovely honey brown color if the navy blue isn’t to your taste.

Promising review: “This couch perfectly completed my living room! It’s comfortable with deep seats, and the quality is nice especially for the price.”

One aspect that makes couch shopping hard is that you’re never guaranteed to find exactly what you want. What made the Milo Sofa make our best faux leather couches and sofas list is that along with being pretty, it’s completely customizable. When you visit the website you can select the arm style, type of cushions, and pillows you want. You can even choose the sofa base! The buttery vegan leather is a perfect dupe for the real thing, and is super durable. Even if your lounging partner is a giant Saint Bernard in need of a nail trim, this piece will hold. Handcrafted in California, Inside Weather boasts its Milo Collection as the most sustainable on the market, so it’s truly the type of seating you can feel good spending the day on.

Promising review: “I am very happy with this couch! It looks so great in my living room, and even though I always considered myself not super into mid-century modern design, it blends with the rest of my style perfectly! The fabric is deliciously smooth and, the main thing — my dogs fur — brushes off with ease.“

I like to think of the Harrison Sofa in a study filled with old American novels. Of course, it would also look dashing in a living room or den. Its full cushions make it great for almost anywhere, room-wise — and it’s comfortable. Isn’t that what we all want from a couch? The rolled arms have classic nailhead trim, and the cushions are removable. You’ll want to keep this out of direct sunlight to keep it looking nice, but otherwise it’s a cinch to care for. All it takes is a gentle wipe down with distilled water, and it will look like it was just delivered. Speaking of which, if you have better things to do than move around a sofa, Birch Lane offers room delivery for an extra $119.99.

If you’re searching for something more fun and modern, check out the Baldwin Sofa Set. It has that bubble style that’s trending, but has enough structure to remain sophisticated. It’s rearrangeable, and not only comes in faux leather but faux suede, both in a variety of colors. Definitely a sofa for those who like their home looking modern and current, this would also work well in an entertainment room — or wherever you send your grandkids when you need a break. Each section is handcrafted and topped off with rubberwood legs to make it a completely sustainable masterpiece that you can keep for years.

Whether you suffer from back pain or not, you’ll love this power recliner couch. It offers multiple settings for your legs and back, and also has a power headrest. What’s really neat is that along with having a center console with cupholders, each side of the sofa also has a compartment and place for your beverage. It’s awesome for hosting guests, but also great for every day living. The sofa includes USB ports, lights, and is nail trim on its sides to make look a bit more classy than traditional recliners.

Promising review: I’ve wanted this couch for a while. I tried it in a store but the price was too much. Amazon had a better price. Everything works great, and has made such a difference in my sciatica pain. It looks very nice and has many [compartments]. I would definitely recommend this.”

Although I’m not thrilled the only review for this sofa is one-star, I’m still recommending it. First off, that review was because of a packing snafu. Secondly, the style of the Furinno Brive Contemporary Tufted Sofa has a touch glamor and would look awesome if your home decor includes a lot of gold or glass elements. The contemporary design in under $500, making it a total steal, and black steel legs look good against any floor type.

The kitchen may be the heart of any home, but the living room is where the soul is. It’s the place where the family gathers to unwrap holiday gifts, watch TV, and everything in between. Having seating where you can literally put your feet up makes it all the more homey. You’ll love congregating on the Milton Reclining Sofa. Its deep seats are impossible to resist, and the segmented cushions and pillow top arms aren’t bad, either. The three-seater also has a dropdown console, complete with cupholders. Its leatherette upholstery is boasted as breathable, so even in summer you won’t stick to the cushions.

If you need a seating option for a smaller space, you may like the Ahsaad Pillow Top Arm Sofa. It’s made with PC leather and high density foam, making it a surprising treat to roll out on. It can be adjusted to three different angles, and has a sneaky middle compartment with cupholders. Use it for a guest room, office, or vacation rental as one happy customer did. The base features chrome legs for durability, and although the couch looks slim, it can safely hold 500 pounds. It’s also available in grey, brown, and black.

Promising review: “I love this nice sofa with fold-out sleeper bed. I bought this for my rental cabin. It’s a nice mix between rustic and elegant. It’s very comfortable, very easy to clean, easy to move around, the legs are solid, and I love the cool fold-out armrest in the center.”

No matter your design taste, a couch needs to be comfortable, and couches with pillow tops are where comfort is. Besides having soft cushy arms, this Red Barrel Studio Faux Leather Sofa has a segmented pillow back to cradle you head and spine. Built to last, the cushions have premium foam, and coil pocketed springs. Whether your couch is where you spend most of your day, or you only enjoy it come the eight o’clock lineup, the responsive seating will retain its shape. It also comes in brown, black, or pearl, and only requires a screwdriver to assemble.

Promising review: “I ordered both the sofa and matching loveseat. [I love] both items. The faux leather is much more durable than I originally thought it would be, and has held up well with my two dogs. I would highly recommend the grey, which is the color I bought. It goes great with any decor.”

Not every couch needs to be big and bulky. In fact, going for more streamlined furniture can make a room appear calmer and cleaner. If that’s the feeling you’re going for, you’ll like the Bartlett Faux Leather Tight Back Convertible Sofa. The armless design creates a greater sense of space, and it’s actually pretty comfortable. The cushions are five inches thick, making it nice to veg out or sleep on. I like it in dark brown, but it’s also available in ivory white, true red, and cloud grey. Its raven black model is sold out, but should be back in stock soon.

Promising review: “It was fairly easy to put together and looks great with my other furniture. I’m using this for daytime naps and when company needs a place to sleep. I’m pleased with the thickness of the padding and that it clicks from flat to upright position in just a few seconds. It’s easy to clean and care for per the instructions. Great purchase for me from Wayfair!”

Chesterfields are iconic, and the Natasa Faux Leather Rolled Arm Chesterfield Sofa is no exception. This stately piece is stuffed with down feathers, so it’s a pure pleasure to curl up in. Its exterior features PU leather, and it’s resistant to nicks. Although this would work perfectly for a study — I mean, just look at it — it would also be handsome in a den or sitting room. Everyone who sees it will think you scoured every antique shop in the country to find this sofa classic.

Promising review: “Love this couch! Adds that perfect traditional vibe we were looking for for our library room. Still working on setting the rest of the room, but I love the size and look of the couch. Cushions are slightly on the firm side, but it’s still really comfortable, and I expect they’ll soften a bit with time. The tufted back and arms add sophistication. I’ve had several people tell me they would have never guessed it wasn’t real leather.”

The Shayne Faux Leather Square Arm Sofa is a nice blend of modern and traditional. It features beautiful tufted cushions but has a slim build — great choice for rectangular and narrow rooms! The rounded side pillows soften the look, and the slightly reclined back offers a bit of additional comfort. The seat has coils and foam, but it’s still on the firmer side, making it ideal if you a bad back or don’t like overly stuffed cushions. The sofa doubles as a bed for extra company, and the wooden legs make is look a bit more timeless. While I fancy it in red, it’s also available in white, and grey. If you need to clean, it’s recommended to do a small patch test with a mild upholstery cleaner.

Promising review: “I got my sleeper sofa in red, and love it. We spend a lot of time there, and the color is exactly what I expected. It goes with my decor, and delivery was right on. Putting it together took me about an hour, but it was worth it. I would definitely buy it again.”
