HOW TO STYLE FAUX LEATHER WHEN YOU'RE OVER 50 - 50 IS NOT OLD

The older we get, the more challenges we face. Our body changes, gravity is a bummer, wrinkles aren’t only on linen, and then young fashionistas try to tell us what we can and can’t wear. Today I’m going to show you how to wear faux leather when you’re over 50 and look fabulous.

Faux leather has sure changed in the past few years. The quality is much better, and there are times when you can’t tell the difference between faux and real unless you look closely. Faux leather is accepted, unlike its pleather counterpart of old, which looked plastic and fake. Faux or real, the choice is yours, but they are both very popular this year.

This year, you can find faux leather tops and pants, skirts and dresses, and even shorts. I’m not styling any of those today, although I’ve styled a pair of faux leather pants (here), and I loved the look. Instead, I’m styling a Boatneck Striped Sweater that is a nice weight and perfect for early fall. I love the contrasting neckline and ribbing at the cuffs and hem, which give the sweater visual interest. I’m wearing a medium, and the sweater fits me great.

I always look for black or brown when thinking about faux leather items. However, the bone color of this Aviator jacket is so pretty and not as harsh as black. The Bomber or Aviator jacket is trending this year. This faux leather jacket will keep you warm, looking fashionable, and showing that you are still abreast of the latest fashions.

This bone jacket looks feminine and is a great alternative to a black moto jacket that can look manly. I like how this one fits; I’m wearing a medium, and it is perfect even with the sweater underneath.

I picked these ankle boots because of the stylish strap detail. However, I was impressed with the fit and feel of the boots once I tried them. This is the first time I’ve tried boots from Croft & Barrow, and I found them very comfortable. This boot has Tecomfort technology that provides arch support, reduces shock vibration, wicks away odors with antimicrobial properties, and allows all-day wear. They run TTS, and I’m wearing my usual size 9.

Notice the difference in the look with the black faux leather blazer versus the bone aviator jacket. The blazer outfit looks more business-like, while the aviator jacket looks casual. Both outfits look fantastic and are perfect for fall; it is a matter of which works best for your lifestyle. Black can be more stark and harsh against your skin, so I try to soften the look with a blouse, sweater, or scarf.

The Faux Leather Double Breasted Blazer is a great way to dress up any outfit. I felt like the blazer was a little too big for me, probably because it is double-breasted. I never button a double-breasted jacket; I like them to hang open, so I usually size down. I’m wearing a medium, but to get the look I want, I think I needed a small.

Here is the length of the black faux leather blazer. It hits barely below my hips and covers your rear, so you don’t have to worry about who is walking behind you.

I love the dark wash color of these High-Waisted Flare-Leg jeans. This darker wash color looks dressy and professional, and the flare is understated and classy. I’ve seen some of the dramatic flares, and I think that is one trend I’ll pass on, but I know better to say never because it might come back to bite me in the rear. I paired the jeans with the same ankle boot as above but in black instead of Cognac. The boots look great in both colors, so it is a matter of preference. I’m wearing a size 8 in the jeans, and they fit perfectly. The boots run TTS, and I’m wearing my usual size 9.

Still would love to get info on your hair color. Was told you would post. I know as busy as you are you forgot. Many of us have asked. Thanks for posting!

Debbie, I posted my hair color on Saturday. Here is the post: https://50isnotold.com/behind-the-scenes-vol-3-home-again-home-again/#/

Two great looks at reasonable prices. You look great in both looks!

Paulette, I try to style fashions from all price points to suit everyone’s budget.

The bone faux leather jacket is beautiful! You look so nice in this outfit! Thank you for mentioning that the booties have arch support; that is a feature I have to have.

I really liked the aviator jacket too, it is stylish and modern looking.

Great outfit from head to toe!

You hit it out of the park on this one! Loved everything…I don’t typically shop at Kohl’s but I’ve already ordered the sweater for pickup and will check out the other adorable things while I’m there!

I’m happy that you liked this post. I like to give my readers value for their time.

Tania, you look fabulous in all !! I love these jeans, but they don’t come in petite. Are they super long? I’m hearing that off-white booties are trending. is that right? How do you style them? Thanks for all you do.

Off white booties are definitely trending! I’ve worn them a couple of times on the blog. I bought a pair last year, and another pair this year, Did you see this post? https://50isnotold.com/styling-a-floral-maxi-dress-with-ankle-boots-from-kohls/

I just cannot get excited about fake leather. I tried the Spanx fake leather leggings and hated them. sent them back. I have a nice real leather jacket which I cannot wear in hot Florida. Everything looks good on you however!

Linda, both products have pros and cons. I love my real leather items, but they are heavy and hot, so faux is easier to wear in early fall.

I enjoy the clothing fashions you’ve shown. However, I can’t wear 2 inch heels or higher and need suggestions as to how to style the pants you’ve been showing with flat shoes. This is particularly true for the wider leg pant styles and the fact that I’m 5 ft 2 in. Thanks!

Julie, you have so many footwear options that you can wear. Loafers, flats, and ballet flats are all trending this year, and you can find them everywhere.
