NEWPORT — A craft fair was held Saturday at the Newport Volunteer Fire Department.

The department has been hosting a craft fair for the past seven years to help with operating expenses and raise funds to put toward fireworks on the Fourth of July, according to Missy Gust, a community volunteer who has assisted in organizing the event each year.

“We have had a wonderful flow of people all day,” she said. “The kitchen even sold out of food.”

Gust said she was happy to see so many people out enjoying the community event, especially since so many activities have been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

“It’s great to be able to support the fire department and area small businesses today,” Gust said.

Different goods could be seen throughout the fire station such as earrings, shirts, cups, recipes, baked goods and plenty of other handcrafted items.

“I enjoy crafting different earrings and bows,” said Kari Antill, an event vendor. “I brought some that are Christmas-themed, but my cow print designs have sold well too.”
